It offers space to experience community life, develop a personal relationship with God, and learn more about the way of life, charism, and spirituality of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sr Anna also invited the novices to consider a few guiding questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What possessions or attachments might be holding me back from fully following Jesus\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad?<\/li>\n<li>How can I cultivate a heart that seeks God\u2019s will more than my own desires?<\/li>\n<li>What does it mean to be perfect in the context of Christian discipleship?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5657 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-10-at-03.30.53_ed8235cb-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-10-at-03.30.53_ed8235cb-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-10-at-03.30.53_ed8235cb-1024x578.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-10-at-03.30.53_ed8235cb-768x434.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-10-at-03.30.53_ed8235cb-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-10-at-03.30.53_ed8235cb.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>This year\u2019s novices selected the crucifix as their symbol, a reminder of their call to follow the crucified Christ, to emulate His example of self-giving, to listen attentively to His voice, and to remain open to His transformative grace.<\/p>\n<p>The following day, 24 June, the Solemnity of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, five novices made their First Profession. Marking the occasion within the Jubilee Year of Hope, Provincial Superior Sr Olivia Waika referred to them as the \u201cHopeful Five.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Eucharistic celebration was led by His Lordship Bishop George Nkuo of the Diocese of Kumbo. In his homily, he encouraged the newly professed to embrace three attitudes recommended by Pope Francis at the start of the Year of Consecrated Life in 2014: to be joyful, to be brave, and to be women of communion.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5655 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-09-at-20.40.03_a9772e26-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-09-at-20.40.03_a9772e26-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-09-at-20.40.03_a9772e26-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-09-at-20.40.03_a9772e26-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-09-at-20.40.03_a9772e26-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/tertiarysisters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-07-09-at-20.40.03_a9772e26.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Drawing on the Gospel account of John the Baptist\u2019s birth (Luke 1:57\u201366), Bishop Nkuo reminded all present\u2014especially the newly professed\u2014that each of us is always a work in progress. \u201cNone of us is a finished product,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we must ask ourselves: What will I become\u2014today, tomorrow, next week, next year?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the celebration, Sr Olivia responded to the bishop\u2019s question\u2014\u201cWhat will these five sisters be?\u201d\u2014by affirming, \u201cThey will be Hopeful Sisters, bringing Christ\u2019s love to humanity in humility.\u201d Hence, the name Hopeful Five.<\/p>\n<p>The newly professed expressed their gratitude to the bishop, clergy, sisters, and all those who gathered to pray with them.
