Shaping the Future: St Clare Province Holds Assembly On Deepening Our Roots

von Sr. Mourine Verla

The Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis (TSSF) gathered from the evening of Sunday, 8 March, to Thursday, 12 March 2026, for their Provincial Assembly. This regular gathering brings sisters together to reflect on their life, mission, and future direction.

Sisters from communities across St Clare Province—one of the Congregation’s three provinces in Cameroon—including the Provincial Leadership Team, took part in the Assembly. Through prayer, presentations, and shared discussion, the meeting fostered a strong spirit of unity, responsibility, and discernment.

Guided by the theme “Deepening Our Roots, Defining Our Future,” the Assembly opened with a welcome from the Provincial Superior, Sr Loretta Yekwa, who introduced the facilitators, Sr Rosemary Arrah (HHCJ) and Sr Felicitas Lukong (SST). The opening Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr Bartholomew Anyanwu, representing the Bishop of Buea. In his homily, he encouraged the sisters to remain rooted in their spiritual life while looking ahead with faith and hope.

A central focus of the Assembly was the review of the Province’s life and work. Sr Mediatrix Wirba, Coordinator of the Preparatory Commission, presented the working document, highlighting the importance of strong spiritual and communal foundations. Commission leaders shared reports on their areas of service, while the Provincial Superior presented an overview of the Province’s activities over the past year and seven months. This was followed by a financial report from the Provincial Bursar.

After the presentations, the sisters met in smaller groups to reflect on the reports and to offer feedback, which was then shared in plenary. This process supported open discussion and collective discernment on the priorities and challenges facing the Province.

The Assembly also included thematic reflections on its guiding theme. Br Cyril Kerla, OFM Cap, described the sisters as “living stones” helping to build the future of the Province, noting that strong roots provide identity, belonging, and resilience. Sr Honorine Kinyuy, TSSF, reflected on the importance of charism, emphasising that it shapes the Congregation’s spirituality, mission, community life, and response to the needs of the times.

As the Assembly concluded, participants proposed practical steps for strengthening community life and advancing the Province’s mission. The sisters were encouraged to carry these insights back to their communities and to remain united in prayer, faith, and mutual support.

The gathering ended in gratitude—for the shared reflection, for the contributions of all involved, and for the renewed commitment to the future. With this strengthened sense of purpose, the sisters of St Clare Province look ahead with confidence, trusting in God’s guidance as they continue their service.
