A Journey of Faith and Devotion: Celebrating Vows and Jubilees in the Franciscan Tradition

Por Sr. Josephat Leinyuy Lukong

In a spirit of joy, thanksgiving, and profound devotion, our community recently gathered for a landmark Eucharistic celebration honoring the religious vows and milestone jubilees of our sisters. Set against the backdrop of the Year of St. Francis marking the 800th anniversary of his death this special occasion served as a poignant reflection on a life lived in simplicity, peace, and selfless service.

Final Professions: A Lifetime Commitment to Peace

A central highlight of the liturgy was the final profession of eight young sisters who dedicated their lives perpetually to Christ and the Franciscan spirit.

Through sacred rites including the prostration before the altar and the solemn blessing these young women publicly embraced vows of simplicity, poverty, peace, and love. As emphasized during the homily, to walk in the footsteps of St. Francis is to be a true ambassador of peace:

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.”

In times of global uncertainty, these vows stand as a powerful testament to living without seeking self-reward or recognition, but rather offering oneself fully as an instrument of divine peace.

Celebrating Decades of Faithful Service

Alongside the fresh commitment of our newly professed sisters, the community stood in awe of the decades of perseverance and grace embodied by our Jubilarians:

  • 60 Years of Religious Life (Diamond Jubilee): Celebrating two sisters whose 60-year journey reflects decades of unwavering faith and steadfast dedication to their calling.
  • 50 Years of Religious Life (Golden Jubilee): Celebrating one sister marking a half-century of continuous service, wisdom, and pastoral presence.
  • 25 Years of Religious Life (Silver Jubilee): Celebrating two sisters commemorating a quarter-century of faithful commitment to religious life.

Walking Forward in Faith

Whether marking their initial perpetual vows or looking back on up to six decades of consecrated service, all the sisters reaffirmed the essential prayer of the Apostles: “Lord, increase our faith.” Without that faith, the daily witness of religious life could not endure.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and prayers to all eight newly professed sisters and five Jubilarians. May their lives continue to inspire our faith community to live with humility, simplicity, and love.
