Tertiary Sisters Open New Hospital in Southwestern Cameroon

The Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis officially inaugurated the Saint Clare Catholic General Hospital on 25 July in Babenga, near the city of Douala in southwestern Cameroon. The new hospital expands the congregation’s healthcare ministry and aims to improve access to healthcare for residents of Babenga, nearby communities, and the surrounding region.

The inauguration began with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Monsignor Dieudonné Espoir Atangana and Emeritus Bishop Emmanuel Bushu of the Diocese of Buea, who offered prayers for the hospital’s ministry of healing. Following the Mass, the hospital was formally dedicated and opened to the public.

Now fully operational, Saint Clare Catholic General Hospital offers a broad range of medical services, including general consultations, maternity care, paediatrics, gynaecology, laboratory services, X-ray and ultrasound imaging, surgery, urology, cardiology, and in-patient care. The hospital is expected to improve access to essential healthcare for families throughout the region.

Guided by the Franciscan motto, “To see and serve Christ in all by spending time to care,” the hospital seeks to provide medical care marked by dignity, professionalism, and compassion.

The opening of Saint Clare Catholic General Hospital reflects the Tertiary Sisters’ long-standing commitment to healthcare ministry in Cameroon. As it begins serving patients, the hospital will provide an important new resource for communities near Douala while continuing the congregation’s mission of caring for those in need.
