Sr. Mirjam Volgger

Born in 1962 as the second of four children into a mountain farming family in South Tyrol, I grew up in a Christian and caring environment, I was blessed with values that continue to guide my life today.

After completing primary and secondary school, I worked for several years as a housekeeper and childcare provider. In 1983/84, I attended the School of Home Economics run by the Tertiary Sisters in Sterzing/Vipiteno. During this time, my connection with the Congregation deepened and eventually led me to discern my religious vocation.

In 1986, I entered the Congregation of the Tertiary Sisters. I made First Profession in 1989, and Perpetual Profession in 1994. At the same time, I completed my training as a Registered Nurse and later worked at the Congregation’s Marian Clinic. Further specialisation as an Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Nurse expanded my professional qualifications.

Through various capacity-building programmes, including a Leadership Course for Religious Sisters in Vienna and Spiritual Accompaniment, I was prepared for broader responsibilities within the Congregation. Since 2007, I have been serving in different leadership roles. In 2019, I was elected Provincial Superior of the Province of Brixen, and in 2025, the General Chapter elected me General Vicar of our Congregation.

Accompanying people on their journey, fostering community, and helping to shape the future together are tasks that I deeply value. Our Franciscan values, strong bonds among the Provinces, and a responsible and open vision for the future of our Congregation are especially close to my heart.
