On Sunday, 13 July 2025, participants arrived in Assisi for the 23rd Ordinary General Chapter of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis, held at the Centro della Spiritualità “Barbara Micarelli” in Portiuncola.
Centred on the theme Pilgrims of Hope, the Chapter is being facilitated by Sr Stephanie Coughlan (Sisters of Marie Reparatrice) and Sr Olivia Umoh (Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul).

The first gathering took place on the afternoon of Monday, 14 July. Participants familiarised themselves with the meeting space and equipment, settling into the rhythm of the Chapter with support from the facilitators.
The official opening of the Chapter took place on Tuesday, 15 July. The day began with Holy Mass, celebrated by the African sisters. At 9:00 am, Superior General Sr Theodosia Baki conducted the roll call, welcomed the delegates, and formally opened the Chapter. The morning session focused on reviewing Chapter procedures, conducting preliminary votes, and confirming committee memberships. The afternoon was dedicated to group discernment.
On Wednesday, 16 July, the day began with Mass and continued with a keynote presentation by Fr John Arokiam, OFM, titled Pilgrims of Hope: Walking with Christ in the Light of Emmaus and the Canticle of the Creatures. His reflection encouraged deep personal and collective discernment. The evening session built on this theme, inviting participants into silent prayer and spiritual conversation.

Thursday, 17 July, was dedicated to the presentation of provincial reports from all six Provinces. Each report highlighted the life, mission, and community of the sisters in their respective regions. A strong sense of gratitude emerged as participants reflected on the Congregation’s growth—rooted in the vision of Maria Hueber 325 years ago—and its current presence across three continents.
The day also featured a vibrant “marketplace” where each Province presented displays including handicrafts, photos, and other cultural items. This interactive space offered a vivid expression of the diversity and vitality of the Congregation’s global community.
