Tertiary Sisters Celebrate 100 Years in Bolivia

by Sr. Fatima Iraipi

On October 19, the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis celebrated the centenary of their missionary presence in Bolivia. It was an occasion to render gratitude to God for the significant missionary presence of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis in Bolivia––especially in the provinces of Guarayos and Chiquitos––and for the numerous blessings of this missionary journey.

The highlight of the celebration was marked by the celebration of the Eucharist presided over by Msrg. Antonio Bonifacio Reimann, bishop of the Ñuflo de Chávez vicariate; Fr. Roberto Tomicha, Franciscan Conventual; and Edwin Franciscan Capuchin as concelebrants.
It was also an opportune moment to honor and celebrate Sr. Ehrentrudis Grassmayer and Kanisia Susana Hafner, the first missionaries to Bolivia, for their courage and faith. Like our Mother Foundress, Maria Hueber, we are thankful to God for “the sweet and the sour “ and pray that the God of Love will continue to “direct everything according to His Divine will”.

The event was graced by the presence of the Superior General Sr. Theodosia Baki and her council, the three Provincial Superiors of the three Provinces of Cameroon in Africa: Sr. Olivia Waika, Sr. Loretta Yekwa, Sr. Angela Ngube. Also in attendance were two leaders of the Province of Hall in Austria: Sr. Gertrud Schernthanner, the Provincial Superior and Sr. Notburga Maringele, the Provincial Councillor.
